Polyamide Cage NU300 Series Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Temperature and speed limits, lubricant compatibility, and the bore range this cage is offered across.

Polyamide Cage NU300 Series Cylindrical Roller Bearings are made from glass-fiber reinforced PA66, injection molded as a one-piece snap cage (suffix TVP / TVH depending on the maker). Corrosion behavior: unaffected by ordinary mineral greases and oils; aged prematurely by some synthetic oils and by aggressive EP additives at temperature. The material is non-magnetic, and the usable service range is continuous service to about +120 °C — above that the polyamide ages rapidly, and it is the cage rather than the steel that ends the bearing. In practice this material is light, quiet and low friction, and it survives momentary misalignment and starved starts better than a steel cage; it is also the reason a polyamide-caged bearing cannot be run to the temperature limit of its own rings.

Property figures are typical for the material. In an assembled bearing the lubricant, the seals and the cage frequently reach their limits before the material does, so check all four against the duty. Material certification is available on request for production orders.

Electric motor bearing — NU300 Series Cylindrical Roller Bearings in service

Polyamide Cage NU300 Series Cylindrical Roller Bearings: Light, quiet and low friction, and it survives momentary misalignment and starved starts better than a steel cage; it is also the reason a polyamide-caged bearing cannot be run to the temperature limit of its own rings. The material decides the corrosion behavior — unaffected by ordinary mineral greases and oils; aged prematurely by some synthetic oils and by aggressive EP additives at temperature and the temperature the part will stand (continuous service to about +120 °C — above that the polyamide ages rapidly, and it is the cage rather than the steel that ends the bearing), and it is the reason the alternatives below exist. Properties, limits and the full size table follow.

Why Polyamide Cage for NU300 Series Cylindrical Roller Bearings

Light, quiet and low friction, and it survives momentary misalignment and starved starts better than a steel cage; it is also the reason a polyamide-caged bearing cannot be run to the temperature limit of its own rings. In a nu300 series cylindrical roller bearings it is the cage, which spaces the rolling elements and keeps them from touching each other.

A moulded polyamide cage is light, quiet and forgiving: it runs with less friction than a steel cage, tolerates momentary misalignment and shock, and survives a starved start that would let a steel cage wear. Its price is a temperature ceiling well below the rings'.

Alternatives and When to Switch

Pressed steel is the alternative for ordinary duty at temperature; machined brass for high speed, heavy shock, and for lubricants that would age a polymer cage.

What the Material Changes About the Bearing

The cage carries no load, so it changes no rating. What it changes is the operating envelope: the maximum temperature, the maximum speed, the tolerance of shock and vibration, the noise, and the compatibility with the lubricant. A bearing is very often limited by its cage long before its rings are in any danger, which is why the cage suffix in a designation is not a detail.

Fitting a Steel Bearing in an Aluminum Housing

Aluminum has roughly twice the coefficient of thermal expansion of bearing steel, so a housing bore machined to a normal H7 fit at room temperature grows away from the outer ring as the machine reaches operating temperature. The outer ring then turns in its seat and wears the bore. Where the housing is aluminum and the temperature rise is more than about 30 degrees C, tighten the housing fit by one grade — J7 or K7 in place of H7 — or fit a steel sleeve into the aluminum. Check the resulting internal clearance: a tighter housing fit takes clearance out of the bearing, which is often why C3 is specified alongside it.

Ring forging, heat treatment, raceway grinding and superfinishing all happen under one roof, so a bore tolerance and a clearance group are set by processes we control and can evidence, not by whichever supplier had stock.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does Polyamide Cage change the dimensions or the rating?

The cage carries no load, so it changes no rating. What it changes is the operating envelope: the maximum temperature, the maximum speed, the tolerance of shock and vibration, the noise, and the compatibility with the lubricant. A bearing is very often limited by its cage long before its rings are in any danger, which is why the cage suffix in a designation is not a detail.

Does the cage affect the load rating?

No. The cage carries no load — it spaces the rolling elements and guides them. What it decides is the operating envelope: the temperature limit, the speed limit, the tolerance of shock and vibration, the noise, and the compatibility with the lubricant.

How do I know which cage a bearing has?

From the suffix in the designation. The conventions differ between makers, but a bearing without a cage suffix normally has the standard pressed steel cage, and the polyamide and machined brass alternatives are always marked. Where the cage matters to the duty, state it on the order rather than assuming.

Are Polyamide Cage NU300 Series Cylindrical Roller Bearings magnetic?

Polyamide Cage is non-magnetic.
