What Are H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings Used For?
Typical applications, the industries that specify h7000c series precision spindle angular contact ball bearings in 10 mm to 100 mm bore, how to state the designation, clearance, sealing, cage and fit on an order, and where a different bearing type is the right answer.
H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings are used for carrying combined radial and axial load where the axial component acts in one direction, mounted against a second bearing that takes it in the other. Boundary dimensions are to ISO 15 / ISO 492 / GB/T 292 / GB/T 307.1, and selection is driven by the contact angle, which sets how the capacity is split between radial and axial, and by the arrangement and preload of the pair the bearing works in.

Application notes are general engineering guidance. Basic load ratings, limiting speeds and permissible misalignment vary between manufacturers for the same designation — verify them against the catalog of the bearing actually being supplied, and against your own bearing life calculation.
A typical service position for H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings.
The duty of H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings is carrying combined radial and axial load where the axial component acts in one direction, mounted against a second bearing that takes it in the other. The line joining the ball contacts runs at an angle to the radial plane, so load is transmitted diagonally through the bearing: a single row can only push axially one way, and it must be opposed by something that pushes back. The sections that follow cover the sectors that specify them, how to state the designation, clearance, sealing, cage and fit on an order, how to mount them, and the known limits of the type. Dimensions are to ISO 15 / ISO 492 / GB/T 292 / GB/T 307.1. This series is catalogued from 10 mm to 100 mm bore; the full table of boundary dimensions is further down the page.
Typical Applications for H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings
The machine positions and sectors where this type is specified:
Maintenance and repair (MRO): replacing a failed bearing where the original designation, clearance group and sealing have to be matched exactly.
OEM machine building: designed-in shaft support on new equipment, specified from the load, speed and envelope at the design stage.
Machine tool spindles: the front and rear bearing sets of a milling or grinding spindle, where preload and tolerance class set the achievable accuracy.
Machine tool spindles: matched sets carrying the cutting thrust and holding the spindle stiff, where preload sets the running accuracy and 15° angles are chosen for speed.
Pumps: centrifugal impeller shafts, where the hydraulic thrust acts in one direction and the bearing that takes it is chosen for axial capacity.
How to Specify H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings for Your Application
Bore: Start from the bore the shaft or housing gives you — this series is catalogued from 10 mm to 100 mm — then check the outer diameter and width against the space available. The boundary dimensions are fixed by the standard, so they are the same from any manufacturer; the load ratings and limiting speeds are not, and belong to the specific bearing being supplied.
Tolerance class and preload: State the ISO 492 tolerance class (P4, P2) and the preload class together with the cage material. On a spindle these three fields, not the load rating, determine whether the machine holds its accuracy.
Contact angle: The contact angle is the whole decision. A 15° bearing (7000 C) has the lowest axial capacity and the highest permissible speed; a 40° bearing (7000 B) takes far more axial load and runs slower. 25° and 30° sit between them. State the angle explicitly — it is a suffix, not an option, and two bearings with the same boundary dimensions and different angles are different bearings.
Arrangement: Single rows are used in pairs and the pairing is part of the order. Back-to-back (DB) sets the load lines apart and gives a rigid, moment-carrying pair; face-to-face (DF) is more tolerant of misalignment and less stiff; tandem (DT) doubles capacity in one direction only and still needs opposing. Double row and four-point contact designs take both directions in a single bearing.
Designation and suffixes: State the complete designation including every suffix. The base number gives the type and the boundary dimensions; the suffixes carry the sealing, the cage, the clearance group, the tolerance class and any special execution — and two bearings whose base numbers match but whose suffixes differ are not interchangeable.
Preload class: This type is specified by preload rather than by an internal clearance group, because the axial setting is made when the bearings are clamped together on assembly. State the preload class (light, medium, heavy) on the order, and state the arrangement it applies to — the preload belongs to the set, not to one bearing.
Sealing arrangement: This type is supplied open, so the sealing belongs to the housing around it. Specify the shaft seal, flinger or labyrinth that will keep the lubricant in and contamination out — with an open bearing, the sealing arrangement, not the bearing, decides how long it survives its environment.
Cage material: State the cage. Pressed steel is the default and suits most duties; machined brass takes shock, high temperature and poor lubrication better and is used in large and heavily loaded bearings; polyamide is quiet, light and low-friction but has a temperature limit of about 120 °C and is attacked by aged oil. The cage is not a detail — it is the component that most often sets the real temperature limit of the bearing.
Shaft and housing fit: Specify the seat tolerances, not just the bearing. The rule is that the ring which rotates relative to the load direction takes the interference fit: for a rotating inner ring under normal radial load the shaft seat is typically k5 or k6 with the housing bore H7, and where the outer ring rotates the interference moves to the housing (N7 or P7) with a clearance fit (g6) on the shaft. Heavier loads and hollow shafts move the fits tighter. A correctly chosen bearing in the wrong fit fails anyway — too loose and the ring creeps and frets its seat, too tight and the interference consumes the internal clearance and the bearing runs preloaded.
Standard: Boundary dimensions are to ISO 15 / ISO 492 / GB/T 292 / GB/T 307.1. Quoting the standard on the order guarantees the mounting dimensions are interchangeable between suppliers — it does not standardize load ratings, limiting speeds or internal design, which remain manufacturer-specific.
Mounting & Assembly Practice
Mount single rows in opposition and clamp both rings axially. A single angular contact bearing tightened on the shaft with the outer ring free is not located at all.
A matched set is supplied ground so that clamping the rings together produces a defined preload. Keep the set together, keep the marks aligned, and do not substitute one bearing of a pair.
Set the preload by clamping to the shoulders and locknut, not by force on a press. Rotate the shaft several turns while tightening so the balls take up their contact position before the final measurement.
Do not swap the fit direction: the ring that is loaded in the axial direction takes the interference, and the opposing ring must remain free enough to be drawn up when the set is clamped.
Common Selection Mistakes with H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings
Fitting one single-row angular contact bearing on its own and expecting the shaft to be located. It carries axial load one way and gives no location at all in the other; the shaft simply moves until something else stops it.
Choosing a 40° bearing for its axial rating on a spindle running near the speed limit, when the whole reason a spindle uses 15° bearings is that the shallow angle lowers the centrifugal load on the ball and the heat it generates.
Confusing DB and DF. They are not interchangeable: DB carries a tilting moment and DF barely does, and a DF pair fitted where a DB pair was designed leaves the shaft flexible enough to chatter.
Sizing this bearing from the boundary dimensions alone. Load ratings and limiting speeds are manufacturer-specific for this series and are deliberately not published here — take them from the catalog of the bearing actually being supplied and calculate the life against them.
Where H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings Are Not the Right Choice
Contact seals do not belong here: their drag is the loss a preloaded spindle bearing exists to avoid, and the heat they add moves the preload during a cut.
Never on its own for a reversing axial load. A single row takes thrust in one direction only; reversing load unseats the contact and the balls skid across the raceway.
Not where the axial load direction is unknown at design time — a double row or four-point contact bearing carries both directions in one part.
Contact seals do not belong on precision spindle bearings: their drag is precisely the loss that a preloaded spindle bearing is specified to avoid.
If the shaft diameter is already fixed by the machine, the 30 mm bore, 35 mm bore and 40 mm bore pages narrow the table to that one size, and where the environment rather than the load decides the build, Zirconia ZrO2 and Pressed Steel Cage set out what each grade survives.

Our facility
Built for the duty, not just catalogued for it
Clearance group, cage material and seal type are chosen on our own assembly line to match the duty described above — a bearing specified correctly and built to the wrong clearance runs hot exactly as fast as one specified wrongly.

Inside the plant
Manufactured in our own plant
This bearing is forged, hardened, ground, superfinished and clearance-set in-house. The stages below are where its tolerance class, its internal clearance and its noise grade are actually decided.
01
Forging & turning
GCr15 bar and tube is cut, heated and forged into ring blanks, then turned to leave a uniform grinding allowance. Forging rather than machining from solid keeps the grain flow following the raceway, which is the surface that eventually fails.
Blank dimensions and grinding stock checked at set-up and per shift.
02
Heat treatment
Through-hardening brings GCr15 / 100Cr6 to 58–64 HRC; carburizing case-hardens 20CrMnTi where the section is heavy or the load is shock. Rings are then stabilized so they hold size in service rather than growing in the housing.
Core and surface hardness per lot; retained austenite and dimensional stability to the ordered temperature class.
03
Raceway grinding
Faces, bore, outer diameter and raceway are ground in sequence on separate machines. This is where the tolerance class is created: P0, P6, P5 or P4 is a grinding outcome, not a sorting outcome.
Bore and outer diameter deviation, raceway roundness and face runout measured to ISO 492 on every setup.
04
Honing & superfinishing
The ground raceway is honed to remove the grinding lay and bring surface roughness down to a fraction of a micrometre. Raceway finish is what decides whether a lubricant film forms, and therefore what decides bearing life far more than the load rating alone.
Surface roughness Ra and waviness measured per lot.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which contact angle should I choose?
Choose the angle from the ratio of axial to radial load and from the speed. A 15° bearing carries the least thrust and the most speed, and is the machine tool spindle default. A 40° bearing carries the most thrust and runs slowest, and suits worm gearboxes and pump thrust positions. Intermediate 25° and 30° angles cover the middle of that range.
What does DB, DF or DT mean on the order?
They describe how two bearings are arranged. DB is back-to-back: the load lines diverge, giving the widest effective bearing spread and the best resistance to tilting moments. DF is face-to-face: the load lines converge, so the pair is less stiff but more forgiving of misalignment. DT is tandem: both rows face the same way and share one direction of axial load between them.
How do I choose the right size of H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings?
Start from the bore the shaft or housing gives you — this series is catalogued from 10 mm to 100 mm — then check the outer diameter and the width against the space available, and confirm the calculated life against the load and speed. The full table of boundary dimensions is on this page.
What has to be stated when ordering H7000C Series Precision Spindle Angular Contact Ball Bearings?
The complete designation with every suffix, the internal clearance group or preload class, the seal or shield type, and the cage material — plus the shaft and housing seat tolerances on the drawing. The bearing and the fit are one specification: a correctly chosen bearing in the wrong fit either creeps on its seat or runs preloaded.
