ISO 281 6200 Series Deep Groove Ball Bearings Specification
What ISO 281 fixes, what it deliberately leaves to another document, its equivalents, and the dimensional table.
ISO 281 defines the basic dynamic load rating Cr (or Ca for a thrust bearing) and the method for calculating rating life from it. The rating is the constant load a bearing can carry for one million revolutions with 90% reliability; life follows L10 = (C/P)^p, with p = 3 for ball bearings and 10/3 for roller bearings, and the standard also gives the modified rating life that accounts for lubrication cleanliness and fatigue limit.
Standard
ISO 281
Covers
Dynamic load ratings and rating life
Does not fix
It does not fix a bearing's dimensions, and it does not publish the rating for any particular bearing — the rating is declared by the manufacturer, computed to this method from the internal geometry, so two makers' figures for the same 6204 differ by a few percent and are not interchangeable in a life calculation.
Equivalents
GB/T 6391 is the Chinese adoption; the static rating C0 is a separate document, ISO 76.
Product
6200 Series Deep Groove Ball Bearings
Governing standards
ISO 15 / DIN 625-1 / GB/T 276
Equivalence between the ISO, DIN and GB/T documents is dimensional: a bearing made to either mounts in the same seat. It is not an equivalence of load rating, tolerance class or internal clearance, each of which is fixed by a separate standard and declared separately.
6200 Series Deep Groove Ball Bearings manufactured to ISO 281 are tabulated below. The standard covers dynamic load ratings and rating life — and reading it as though it covered anything else is the most common mistake made with a bearing standard, so the boundary of its scope is set out first.
ISO 281 — Scope
ISO 281 defines the basic dynamic load rating Cr (or Ca for a thrust bearing) and the method for calculating rating life from it. The rating is the constant load a bearing can carry for one million revolutions with 90% reliability; life follows L10 = (C/P)^p, with p = 3 for ball bearings and 10/3 for roller bearings, and the standard also gives the modified rating life that accounts for lubrication cleanliness and fatigue limit.
What ISO 281 Does Not Fix
It does not fix a bearing's dimensions, and it does not publish the rating for any particular bearing — the rating is declared by the manufacturer, computed to this method from the internal geometry, so two makers' figures for the same 6204 differ by a few percent and are not interchangeable in a life calculation.
This division of labour is the thing to carry away from any bearing standard. A boundary dimension standard makes bearings interchangeable; it does not make them equivalent. Two bearings of the same designation from different makers mount in the same seat and are not required to have the same load rating, the same internal design, the same cage or the same speed limit.

National Equivalents
GB/T 6391 is the Chinese adoption; the static rating C0 is a separate document, ISO 76.
This product is supplied against ISO 15 / DIN 625-1 / GB/T 276, which names the documents it is made to.
When to Cite ISO 281
ISO 281 is the international reference and the right one to cite on a new drawing or a purchase specification. Adding the national equivalents alongside it costs nothing and makes the requirement legible to a supplier working to DIN or to GB/T.
Other ways to specify the 6200 Series Deep Groove Ball Bearings
The same part is also governed by ISO 15 and DIN 625, and where two standards cover one dimension they agree — the numbers are the same, the document is not.
Customize the parameters below — every spec field is editable, and the drawing redraws to match the values you choose. Changing the designation snaps the other fields to that size's standard values; you can then override any individual value.
Sends the selected values to the quote form below.
Our facility
Held in production, not just on paper
The tolerances above are decided on the grinding and superfinishing lines in our own plant, and gauged on every ring rather than on a sample. A dimension is only worth quoting if it survives the process that produces it.

Frequently Asked Questions
What does ISO 281 not cover?
It does not fix a bearing's dimensions, and it does not publish the rating for any particular bearing — the rating is declared by the manufacturer, computed to this method from the internal geometry, so two makers' figures for the same 6204 differ by a few percent and are not interchangeable in a life calculation.
What is the equivalent of ISO 281?
GB/T 6391 is the Chinese adoption; the static rating C0 is a separate document, ISO 76.
Does ISO 281 mean two bearings are interchangeable?
Dimensionally, yes — that is what a boundary dimension standard is for, and a bearing of the same designation from any maker mounts in the same shaft and housing seat. Functionally, not necessarily: the load rating, the internal design, the cage, the clearance group and the speed limit are decided by the manufacturer and by other standards, and two bearings with the same number are not required to match on any of them.
Does ISO 281 fix the load rating?
ISO 281 fixes the METHOD by which a basic dynamic load rating is calculated and how rating life follows from it. It does not publish the rating for any individual bearing — that figure is declared by the manufacturer from the bearing's internal geometry, which is why two makers' ratings for the same designation differ slightly.
